A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted the pig's pardon.
