Actor Denies Anti-Vaxxer Stance Following Lending His Voice To Contentious Coronavirus Film
The "Taken" star has lent his voice to a recent film that challenges the safety of vaccines and lauds former government figure Robert F Kennedy Jr.
The Documentary's Provocative Basis
Named "Plague of Corruption," the film is adapted from a bestselling book co-authored by Judy Mikovits, who became famous during the pandemic for claims that the virus was a result of a problematic version of the seasonal immunization.
The publication's co-author, a producer, has penned books with conspiracy-prone radio host a known commentator. He wrote online celebrating Neeson's role in the project.
A Firm Statement
The team of Neeson have issued a comment firmly refuting suggestions that he holds anti-immunization views.
"Everyone can recognize that unethical practices can exist within the medical sector, but that must not be confused with rejection of vaccines," the response explains. "Liam is not, and is not, anti-vax. His extensive work with the UN children's agency reinforces his consistent support for public-health initiatives."
It added that the performer had no hand in the documentary's narrative and that concerns about its content are best addressed to the filmmakers.
Central Themes Featured in the Film
In the film, the voiceover provided by Neeson includes several strong points:
- It claims that pro-vaccine voices have called for "unconditional submission" to government bodies.
- It argues that "research has become deeply politicised."
- Kennedy is interviewed saying, "The big problem with vaccines is that they are not properly vetted."
- The narration takes aim at pandemic restrictions, claiming they caused psychological harm that cost thousands of lives.
- Concerning the immunizations, it mentions a view that they were "hurriedly approved" and seen as "dangerous experiments."
Historical Context and Current Disputes
The documentary also references a 2004 BBC documentary about clinical trials on children, which was later the focus of a BBC apology by the network for unbalanced reporting.
Recently, Kennedy instructed the national health agency to change its official position that there is no link between immunizations and autism spectrum disorder. This claim is echoed in the film, contrary to a fresh analysis from the World Health Organisation confirming no such link has been found.
A Past Position of Endorsement
Differing from the documentary's tone, Neeson has formerly shown firm endorsement for vaccines in his capacity as a Unicef global ambassador.
Two years ago, he described vaccines as "an incredible triumph," stating that "The discourse about vaccines in the past few years has lost sight of how much benefit they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest shared accomplishments in human history."
"Plague of Corruption" concludes with Neeson's narration proclaiming, "This is not the conclusion of our narrative. This is the start of a new chapter."
