Iran Reports Assault on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Amid Regional Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has remained silent.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with notable success and shot down a several projectiles," it added.
The statement noted missile fragments fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
