Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for questions to be raised about his future following a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the club's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received significant support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager highlighted familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
