The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few key changes:

  • Every squad includes just 8 real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for gamers looking for different methods to enjoy the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while someone else lists everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback

Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?

Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
