The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Anger About Size Updates
Shoppers are voicing their frustration due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has revised its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel without notifying every member regarding the update.
Digital Channels Response
Many shoppers and sellers are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually when needed, which has left users frustrated.
Measurement Approach Changes
Earlier, the sizing featured a single numeric size and a letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was previously a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
User Stories
One content creator, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Another user, from Glasgow, said garments she listed featuring size 14 markings were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she explained.
Required Changes
Charlotte Lunn, from Derby, explained she became annoyed by the change as she had to manually change the sizing for "all her products".
"This situation is especially annoying, since I have chronic health issues and selling on Vinted has been paramount for me since losing part of my income," she stated.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, with 18 million British users.
It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time that an unexpected update to the app has proved unpopular: earlier, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices due to shopper criticism.
